Ernest Siddall
Ernest Siddall is a legend in Canadian nuclear circles. In 1971, working on the Pickering A nuclear station outside Toronto, he brought into service the world's first whole-unit computer control system. He also introduced the "two-out-of-three principle" in protective instrumentation systems, a now widely used procedure that permits functional testing during operation. As a consultant to the regulatory authority, Canadian Oil and Gas Lands Administration, he was the first to discern exactly why the "Ocean Ranger" oil rig capsized.
